Palos Verdes Estates Police Chief John Eberhard retired Oct. 31, exactly one year to the month after assuming the $158,832 a year post.
Eberhard, 56, was a 28-year department veteran making $123,552 as a captain when he succeeded Dan Dreiling as head of the small police force, which has about 25 sworn officers. The city plans to hire an interim chief until a permanent replacement for Eberhard is hired, City Manager Tony Dahlerbruch said.
